The Savannah Inn's new owners recently held a ribbon cutting. Marion and Robert Utter, and Marion's sister Kathy Simmons, purchased the popular downtown Lewes lodging destination. They invite the Lewes community to join them at an open house from 1 to 5 p.m., Saturday, June 3.

Ron Ladue with Long & Foster in Lewes represented the purchasers in the transaction. They hope to continue in the same gracious and professional manner that contributed to the inn's distinguished reputation which Gina Kaye Hastings and her parents Vincent and Roseanne Kaye previously established.

They plan to expand the appeal to future guests with private events such as wine tastings, bridal and baby showers, birthday parties and business meetings. "I feel that once people experience the beauty and accessibility to town the inn offers, they will want to return," said Marion. Having owned and operated a 300-seat restaurant and bar with a history of hosting special events in Baltimore County, Md., the Utters bring to the inn their six years of experience in the food and hospitality business. They own two other Maryland businesses operated by their son Daniel and daughter Amy. They have another daughter, Kimberly, and six grandchildren.

Marion had always dreamed of one day owning a bed and breakfast. When Ladue showed them Savannah Inn, they immediately knew this was the one for them. They say they fell in love with Lewes and all it has to offer their future guests. Every shop owner, restaurateur and resident they have met over the past two months has been welcoming and encouraging of their endeavor.

"Lewes is such a great place, and we look forward to becoming a part of the community," said Marion. Marion's twin sister Kathy is bringing personal decorative and furnishing touches. "It is so special to be working with your sister and best friend," said Kathy, who lives in Maryland and has been in the insurance business for over 35 years. She has two daughters, Elizabeth and Emileigh, and sons-in-law Seth and David. She also owns a home in Bethany.

The Savannah Inn has a long-established, welcoming reputation among visitors to Lewes. The new owners pledge to honor that reputation with their ongoing operation.
