Milton planners to meet Sept. 3
Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 3, at Milton library to discuss and possibly vote on final site-plan review for Milton Elementary School’s renovation project. Cape Henlopen School District is planning an extensive renovation to the school, which has been in existence since the 1930s. The school at 512 Federal St. is expected to reopen in 2021. In the meantime, Milton elementary students will use the old H.O. Brittingham Elementary School.

Cape Gazette posts early deadlines
Classified advertising deadlines for the Tuesday, Sept. 10 edition have been moved up to noon, Thursday, Sept. 5. Cape Gazette business offices will be closed Friday, Sept. 6. All other deadlines remain the same as usual.

Rehoboth law oversight committee to meet Sept. 4
The Rehoboth Beach Law Oversight Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on the city’s tree and zoning codes. Henlopen Acres organizational meeting set Sept. 6
The Henlopen Acres Board of Commissioners has scheduled its organizational meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, Sept. 6, in town hall, 104 Tidewaters.

The agenda calls for the swearing in of Frank Jamison and Richard Thompson, who retain their seats on the board for three more years. The terms expire September 2022. The agenda calls for the appointment of president, treasurer, secretary and assistant secretary. The agenda also calls for discussions of tree planting on the ocean block of Rolling Road and a memorial for former Mayor David Lyons at the marina. For more information call 302-227-6411. Dewey marketing committee to meet Sept. 6
The Dewey Beach Marketing Committee will meet at 4 p.m., Friday, Sept. 6, in the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Members will discuss improvements to the town Facebook page, and may decide on a product to create as a possible revenue source for the town.

Dewey commissioners to hold executive session Sept. 5
Dewey Beach commissioners will hold an executive session and town meeting at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 5, in the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. In the executive session, which is closed to the public, commissioners will hold strategy sessions involving legal advice with respect to potential litigation. There are no agenda items for the town meeting.

Lewes council public hearings Sept. 4
Lewes Mayor and City Council will hold two public hearings at 7 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 4, at city hall.
The first will be to get public comment on the site development plan for Richard A. Shields Elementary School, planned for the Lewes School site across Sussex Drive from the existing Shields school.

The second hearing is to gather comments on a change to the city’s portable sign ordinance. More information on both items is available at www.lewes.civicweb.net

Milton council to meet Sept. 9
Milton Town Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 9, at Milton library to approve the town’s $2.1 million budget.
Council will also discuss a recommendation from the streets, sidewalks and parks committee to make Hazzard, Manship, Sand, Church, Clifton and Poplar streets into one-way streets.

New business includes an ordinance related to terminology, waivers and enforcement regarding sewers, a proclamation for Constitution Week, a resolution supporting a grant application for the Rails to Trails Phase 2 and a request from Carla D’Onofrio for a sidewalk waiver on 115 and 117 Collins St.

Burton, Becker to speak Sept. 13
Lewes Mayor Ted Becker and Sussex County Councilman Irwin “IG” Burton III will be the featured speakers at the annual Greater Lewes Civic Coalition meeting at 6 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, at the Rollins Community Center. Following introductions and the treasurer’s financial report, Becker and Burton will update the citizens on developments and issues facing greater Lewes. They will also take questions.

The purpose of the coalition is to educate the citizens of the city and of nearby communities, and their elected representatives, about matters of common interest. For more information, contact GreaterLewes@gmail.com.
