First Baptist Church public hearing Oct. 4

The City of Lewes Joint Site Development Ad Hoc Review Committee will meet at 1 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 4, at City Hall.

Committee members will hold a public hearing and possibly make a recommendation to mayor and city council regarding a request to construct a new building with site improvements at First Baptist Church of Lewes.

Lewes mitigation group meeting Oct. 5

The Lewes Board of Public Works Mitigation Committee will meet at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Oct. 6, in the BPW office conference room.

Members will review existing emergency response plans, develop a schedule for implementing the mitigation design improvements, and work on programs and policies to encourage a favorable view and incorporation of green technologies and practices.

Lewes HPARC meeting Oct. 6

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, Oct. 6, at City Hall.

Mazda Ventures LLC is requesting to build a new single-family home at 320 Savannah Road, while Joe and Melissa Crispin are asking to build an addition and remodel an existing contributing house at 111 E. Third St. There will be a presentation and discussion on each item before possible votes.

Parker Selby fundraiser set Oct. 11

A fundraiser for longtime Sussex County resident, educator and community leader Stell Parker Selby will be held from 4 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Sydney’s Restaurant and Lounge, 16388 Samuel Paynter Blvd., Paynter’s Mill in Milton. Proceeds will support Parker Selby’s campaign for the House of Representatives seat for District 20, which encompasses Lewes, Milton and Belltown.

Residents are encouraged to attend and meet Parker Selby as she presents her views. Cost to attend is $50 and can be paid at the door by check or cash. The menu includes chicken wings, steamed shrimp, macaroni and cheese, collard greens and vegetable tray with iced tea or water. Adult beverages will be available at the cash bar. Musical entertainment will be provided by Funch.

Lewes BPW will soon have a .gov website

The Lewes Board of Public Works was recently approved for .gov domain registration.

Josh Gritton, IT manager, informed the board of the approval during their Sept. 28 meeting and said work has begun with the web hosting company to transition from the current .com domain without losing their search engine optimization. 

Dewey planning and zoning meets Oct. 7

The Dewey Beach Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 4:30 p.m., Friday, Oct. 7, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. The commission will hold public hearings on ordinances regarding conditional-use permits and applications for restaurant permits of compliance to extend the conditional use for Woody’s Dewey Beach, Dewey Beach Country Club, Dewey Beer Company and the Dewey Post. Dewey BoA to hold hearing Oct. 11

The Dewey Beach Board of Adjustment will hold a public hearing for a residential special-exception request at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at the Lifesaving Station, 1 Dagsworthy Ave. Property owner Dana Tilley has requested an exception to move the edge of a pole two feet into the eight-foot setback on the property at 115 Bellevue St.
