Rehoboth workshop slated Nov. 8

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet virtually at 9 a.m., Monday, Nov. 8, with an anchor location of Rehoboth Beach City Hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. 

The agenda calls for continued discussions on the Dolle’s sign; operational changes to refuse, recycling and yard waste services; and the county’s proposal to connect to the city’s ocean outfall.

Town hall meeting to address voting rights

The Delaware Voting Rights Coalition and the ACLU of Delaware will hold a virtual panel discussion at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, via Zoom.

Panelists include Anthony Albence, state elections commissioner, and several upstate legislators, who will discuss ways to protect and advance voting rights in the coming legislative session. To register, go to action.aclu.org/webform/de-dvrc-town-hall.

14th RD Dems to hear from state treasurer

 The 14th RD Democratic Party Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 10, in person at the Iron Hill Brewery on Route 1 near Rehoboth Beach and via Zoom. A dutch treat dinner for in-person attendees will begin at 5:30 p.m. State Treasurer Colleen Davis will address attendees and discuss recent developments at her office.  The committee represent Democrats who live in the communities surrounding the south side of Lewes, south to Dewey Beach and west to Angola. Lewes Mayor and City Council meets Nov. 8

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at city hall and via Zoom. The group will honor the retirement of Patrolman Brent Layfield and receive a presentation from the fire department regarding residential fire suppression. Council will provide an update on proposed ordinances related to off-street parking, building height, driveway width and more; however, a vote will not take place because the planning commission will discuss the matter Wednesday, Nov. 17. Other discussion items include a request from DART to place a bench and trash can next to the bus stop on Savannah Road at Zwaanendael Park, a request for extension of the approval for Olde Town at White’s Pond’s final plan, and action on a recommendation from the planning commission regarding a minor subdivision for a property at the corner of Bay and Oregon avenues on Lewes Beach. Also to be discussed are possible acceptance of public streets and rights-of-way in the Anglers Nest community, and a proposed tree canopy resolution, and possible action on a proposal to change the Cumulative Substantial Improvement requirement as it relates to improvements to properties within the 100-year floodplain. Milton Lions to honor veterans Nov. 11

The Milton Lions Club will celebrate veterans and the more than 140 flags sponsored by families and friends in their honor during a ceremony at 11:11 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, at Odd Fellows Cemetery on Union Street, Milton. Redistricting on Sussex Nov. 9 agenda

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. The agenda includes a discussion related to county council redistricting, and a presentation and discussion on DelDOT initiatives, including the Funding Accelerating Safety in Transportation (FAST) Track program and development coordination. Also on the agenda is a discussion on collection of the county accommodations tax. Savannah Road project starts Nov. 8

Work to install sidewalks on the east side of a portion of Savannah Road, Lewes, is scheduled to begin Monday, Nov. 8. Traffic delays are possible between 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. The project will include installing curb and sidewalk, paving, drainage improvements, water main services, and site amenities along the east side of Savannah Road from Quaker Road to the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail crossing at Lewes city limits.

New Road closing Nov. 11-23

New Road between Old Orchard Road and Canary Creek Lane in Lewes will be closed to connect the roadway to the new roundabout at the Tower Hill subdivision from 7 a.m., Thursday, Nov. 11, to 5 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 23.

In addition, there will be new curbs, drainage and sidewalks installed for Tower Hill.

At all times, residents will have access to their homes but may need to take the posted detour route.

Detour routes: Eastbound traffic: Right onto Old Orchard Road, left onto Savannah Road, left onto Pilottown Road and return to New Road. Westbound traffic: Left on Pilottown Road, right onto Savannah Road, right on Old Orchard Road and back to New Road. Detour signage will be posted.

Delaware Republican Party rally set Nov. 8

The Republican Party of Delaware will host a free rally from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 8, at Nobles Pond, 13 Nobles Pond Crossing, Dover. “This event is exactly one year from Election Day 2022. We want to get everyone thinking about what needs to be done to bring balance and common sense to our government in Delaware and the nation,” said Jane Brady, Delaware Republican Party chair. “We are starting a campaign called 365 and Counting…, which will include action steps each day for the entire year leading up to the election.”

SDARJ town hall set Nov. 9

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice will host a virtual town hall meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 9, with the topic Student Voices Matter: Racial Dynamics in School.

A panel of current students and recent graduates from across the state will explore the status of racial dynamics in Delaware public schools, based on panelists’ real-life experiences. Discussion will center on what school administrators and faculty are doing to improve racial dynamics and what challenges remain, the implications of having a faculty that reflects student body diversity, the importance of teaching a more complete version of American history, and other issues on the minds of students today.

Homeowners and businesses east of Route 1 wishing to participate in 2021 Lewes Lights must register by Monday, Nov. 15, at leweslights.org. Homeowners can enter to spread the joy without competing or sign up to compete in one of six categories.
