Beware of fake fundraising phone calls

The Delaware Volunteer Fire Association issued a press release Dec. 13 saying it had been made aware of scam phone calls soliciting donations for volunteer fire companies or EMS organizations. Association Executive Manager Warren Jones said Delaware’s volunteer fire companies, for the most part, do not solicit funding over the phone. He said people who receive any calls asking for donations for firefighters, fire companies or EMS organizations, they should ask the caller to send written verification of the organization. If/when the verification is received, call the local volunteer fire company or the Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association to confirm.
