Sussex council not meeting March 15
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, March 15. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, March 22, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.
Rehoboth planning meeting canceled
The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission meeting scheduled for 2 p.m., Friday, March 11, has been canceled. Chair Mike Bryan issued a press release March 4 saying there was a lack of agenda items.
Lewes mayor, council meets March 14
Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet at 6:30 p.m., Monday, March 14, at city hall and via Zoom. Officials will announce the recipient of the 2021 Elaine Bisbee Service Award, which is handed out each year to a city employee who displays dedication, dependability, reliability and excellent work habits, and who is team-oriented and committed to providing quality service. Council will receive a presentation from the Delaware Department of Transportation regarding the bridge replacement on New Road, then receive a presentation from the Lewes Public Library.
Under old business, council will consider a vote on a museum ordinance that could allow the menhaden net reel to stay on the Lewes Historical Society campus.
They may also vote on site plans for the Carriage Houses at Cape Henlopen and Carriage Houses at Savannah as well as an interim parking plan for Lewes Beach, which may include parking meters at Roosevelt Inlet.
Council will consider action on adding electric vehicle charging stations and receive a presentation from the city’s annexation code subcommittee.
Under new business, council will receive a presentation from the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute for a feasibility study for the Greenhill Light site at the end of Pilottown Road. Officials will consider a vote on annexation of the Donovan Smith manufactured home park, discuss a resolution from the bicycle and pedestrian advisory committee encouraging bike lanes on Cedar Street, consider a recommendation from the executive committee on resiliency regarding real estate disclosures, and discuss an amendment to the city’s noise ordinance regarding outdoor amplification for businesses with approval from the Office of the Alcoholic Beverage Control Commissioner.

Rehoboth to host FOIA, ethics training
Rehoboth Beach has scheduled a training session on the Freedom of Information Act and ethics for 10 a.m., Monday, March 14. All boards, commissions and committees, and other public bodies of the city, along with members of the public, are invited to attend. The training session will be conducted virtually, but also with an anchor location at the commissioners room, second floor of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave., for those who wish to attend in person.

Rehoboth to meet on outdoor dining
Rehoboth Beach commissioners have scheduled a special meeting on outdoor dining rules for 9 a.m., Tuesday, March 15. The agenda also calls for an executive session related to the search for a new city manager.

Permits of compliance OK’d in Rehoboth
During a special meeting March 8, Rehoboth Beach commissioners approved three permit-of-compliance requests. The first was a supplemental permit of compliance for Egg at 510 Rehoboth Ave. Approval of that application included the conditions that the patio could not be greater than 267 square feet, could not have more than eight seats and must be on private property.
The second was for Drift at 42 ½ Baltimore Ave. Approval was for a new restaurant and patio dining. The third was for Coho’s Market at 310 Rehoboth Ave., which also had an application approved for a new restaurant and patio dining.
Start of Freeman Hwy. project delayed
Delaware River and Bay Authority officials announced that the start of a project to repave Freeman Highway has been delayed to Sunday, March 27.
Project completion date remains Friday, May 20. The contractor, Allan Myers of Malvern, Pa., will be doing milling and paving work to rehabilitate Freeman Highway, the main access route to the Cape May-Lewes Ferry. Construction activity will take place weeknights from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m.
During the day, traffic will not be impacted, as one lane in each direction will remain open.
Motorists may encounter delays on Freeman Highway during these overnight hours. Travelers are urged to be careful and stay alert in and around construction zones, obey posted speed limits and plan to take a few extra minutes during rush-hour periods.
