Milton planners to meet May 16

Milton Planning and Zoning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, at Grace Church, with public hearings leading off the meeting.

Dr. Paul Brown, representing Cypress Grove Milton LLC, is requesting site-plan approval to construct a professional building at the Cypress Grove property on Route 16.

Peak Management LLC is seeking preliminary site-plan approval to build a storage facility on Route 16. This application was discussed at the commission’s April 18 meeting, but the public record was left open to allow the applicant to provide additional information.

DEStorage is requesting preliminary site-plan approval to build a storage complex at the corner of Route 16 and Palmer Street Extended. The commission also previously heard this application but left the record open to allow the applicant to provide more information.

In old business, the commission will hear a request from Royal Farms for final site-plan approval to build a convenience store and gas station at the corner of Route 16 and Union Street Extended.

Fernmoor Homes is requesting final site-plan approval for Phase 9A and 9B of the Heritage Creek subdivision. 

Finally, planners will discuss two advisory reports for town council; the first is on an ordinance related to the historic district, while the other is on whether or not chickens should be allowed to be kept within town limits.

Milton streets committee to meet May 16

Milton Streets and Sidewalks Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, at the Cannery Village clubhouse to discuss a five-year plan for street maintenance.

The committee will hear an update on a new stop sign in Heritage Creek, and discuss a sidewalk going to the Milton post office, and fines for uncleared snow and ice on sidewalks. 

Lewes tree group will meet May 16

The Lewes Planning Commission Tree Ordinance Subcommittee will meet at 3 p.m., Tuesday, May 16, at the Rollins Center.

The group will continue to discuss a potential tree construction ordinance and possible educational opportunities. See the meeting agenda and link at lewes.civicweb.net.

Lewes planners to meet May 17

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, at the Rollins Center.

Randy Burkett will deliver a presentation on responsible nighttime lighting in Lewes, followed by discussion and possible votes on recommendations to mayor and city council regarding annexation zones and possible archeological review requirements for new developments.

HPARC to discuss Daisey property

The Lewes Historic Preservation Architectural Review Commission will host an informal discussion with the Daisey family regarding the 331 Chestnut St. property at 4 p.m., Thursday, May 18, at city hall.

Lewes African American heritage group to meet May 18

The Lewes African-American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 18, at city hall.

The agenda includes updates on oral histories being posted to the website, the Lewes Juneteenth celebration plans, and the public art commission project, as well as a Johnnie Walker Beach Subcommittee meeting recap.

Rehoboth committee meets May 18

The Rehoboth Beach Trees and Green Infrastructure Committee will meet at 10 a.m., Thursday, May 18, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on mapping for the commemorative tree program, tree selection for a tree tour and a campaign against ivy infiltration.

Johnnie Walker Beach committee to meet

The Lewes Johnnie Walker Beach Subcommittee will meet at 5 p.m., Wednesday, May 17, at city hall.

Members will establish the group’s priorities and may take action regarding research, information, displays, signs and design.

Rehoboth Boardwalk committee to gather

The Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk and Beach Committee will meet at 9 a.m., Friday, May 19, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for continued discussion on offshore wind farms, 5G antennas on the Boardwalk, and dogs on the beach and Boardwalk. The meeting also calls for a walking tour of the Boardwalk with Mike Prettyman of the city’s public works department.

Rehoboth sets meeting for May 19

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will meet at 2 p.m., Friday, May 19, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for consideration of resolutions to set public hearings on amending the comprehensive development plan’s future land-use map, and three rezoning requests at 1028A Scarborough Ave. Ext., 1028B Scarborough Ave. Ext. and 20663 Coastal Highway. It also includes a presentation on the new Rehoboth Beach Patrol building on Baltimore Avenue.

Lewes promotes Bike to Work Day May 19

The City of Lewes encourages in-town and area residents to bike to work Friday, May 19.

Mayor Andrew Williams and bicycle and pedestrian committee members will lead a bike ride through downtown Lewes at 8 a.m., starting at the Lewes library trailhead near Monroe Avenue. 

Riders under age 18 must wear helmets; all riders are encouraged to do so.

Dewey commissioners to meet May 19

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold their monthly meeting and public hearings at 3 p.m., Friday, May 19. 

Public hearings and possible votes will be held on ordinances to amend town code related to allowing consistent signage, defining maximum floor area and number of bedrooms, and provisions regarding building permit renewals. 

Commissioners may also vote to approve an official town tagline and on winning submissions for the town tagline contest. Discussions will also take place regarding the new town hall and police department.

RD20 Democratic Committee to meet May 18

The Delaware 20th Representative District Democratic Committee will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 18, at the Lewes Diner, 1201 Savannah Road, Lewes. An informal dutch treat dinner starts at 5 p.m.

The guest speaker will be Betsy Maron, Delaware Democratic Party chair. Maron will discuss current party initiatives and provide insight on the 2024 election cycle.

Any registered Democrat in Delaware is welcome to participate in RD20’s social hour and business meeting.
