Warfel appointed to Sussex BoA

Jordan Warfel, a lifelong Greenwood resident, has been appointed to fill a one-month term on Sussex County Board of Adjustment to replace the retiring Brent Workman, who served on the board for 20 years. Sussex County Administrator Todd Lawson said Warfel’s appointment to a four-year term will be placed on a future agenda. His was nominated by District 2 Councilwoman Cindy Green. Warfel is owner of Dream Design LLC, a drafting services company in Greenwood.

Lewes planners meet May 19

The Lewes Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Wednesday, May 19. The group will discuss a potential recommendation to mayor and city council regarding a the wetlands buffer subcommittee’s recommendation related to the wetlands buffer ordinance. Commissioners will also receive reports about annexation zones, floodplain, sea-level rise, subdivision code and other matters. A link to the meeting can be found on the agenda at lewes.civicweb.net

Lewes African American Heritage Commission to meet

The Lewes African American Heritage Commission will meet at 6 p.m., Thursday, May 20. The group will discuss a project to map out the Black neighborhood in Lewes. Rehoboth board meeting set May 21

Rehoboth Beach Commissioners have scheduled a meeting for 2 p.m., Friday, May 21. The meeting will be conducted online. Meetings will start being held in-person beginning June 1. The agenda calls for an update on the 2020 comprehensive development plan, a discussion on the city’s COVID-19 response and an update on the design of the streetscape for Wilmington and Baltimore avenues.

Rehoboth green committee to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Trees & Green Infrastructure Committee has scheduled a meeting for 10 a.m., Friday, May 21. The meeting will be conducted online. The agenda calls for a continued discussion of a tree inventory and possible change to the city’s tree code. Rehoboth police offering overdose prevention training

In partnership with the Sussex County Community Response Team and SUN Behavioral Health, the Rehoboth Police Department will offer free overdose prevention training from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, May 21, at the Rehoboth Beach Convention Center, 229 Rehoboth Ave. No pre-registration is necessary.

This “walk-up” training takes only a few minutes per person, teaches people how to recognize an overdose and what steps to take to save a life. As part of the training, individuals will receive a Narcan kit provided by the Delaware Division of Public Health.

The city cited information from the National Institute of Drug Abuse that said, in 2018, 88 percent of the 401 reported drug overdose deaths in Delaware involved opioids.

Rehoboth planners set special meeting

The Rehoboth Beach Planning Commission has scheduled a special meeting to go over three sets of minutes. 

The meeting, really a continuation of the planning commission meeting from May 14, is scheduled for 10 a.m., Tuesday, May 18.

 There is no old business, new business or public comment scheduled.
