Lewes hosting workshop June 1

Lewes Mayor & City Council will host a workshop that will lead into an executive session at 9 a.m., Wednesday, June 1, at City Hall.

Candace Vessella will be sworn in to fill the unexpired 3-year term of Andrew Williams.

There will be discussion and possible action to appoint people to fill Vessella’s unexpired terms on both the board of adjustment and parks and recreation commission.

Two members of city council may also be appointed during the workshop to serve on the Use Coordination Committee for the Lewes Nonprofits Room in the Rollins Center.

Mayor and council will continue considering ARPA funding requests and seek updated information from applicants.

Under new business, they will discuss using Delaware voter registration data for municipal elections, possibly eliminating dual registration.

Members will also discuss potential code amendments regarding signs, specifically temporary signs, in all districts, and consider creating an ad hoc committee to review legal service options.

An executive session to discuss personnel matters, which is closed to the public, will follow the new business portion of the agenda.

Lewes planning group to meet June 1

The Lewes Planning Commission Annexation Subcommittee will meet at 1 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, at City Hall, to discuss and review the city’s annexation zones.

Sussex County RD 37 Dems to meet June 1

The Sussex County Democratic Committee will meet virtually at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 1, to discuss forming a new committee in Representative District 37 after the recent redistricting.

Any registered Democrats residing in RD37 are encouraged to attend and participate in preparation for upcoming elections.

Other registered Democrats in Delaware may attend but not vote. Representative district boundaries can be looked up at ivote.de.gov.

Rehoboth Beach City Hall open Saturdays

Special Dewey meeting set June 3

Dewey Beach commissioners will hold a virtual special meeting at 4 p.m., Friday, June 3. Members will possibly vote to approve a resolution recommending a town alderman to the governor, to adopt revisions to the investment plan, to add a self-assigned fund for a new town hall, to allocate funds from other assigned accounts to self-committed accounts, and to approve the purchase of homeowner welcome bags. Henlopen Acres issues call for 2022 election

All candidates for Henlopen Acres town commissioner shall file their notice of intention to seek office with the town manager or mayor by 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 8.

For the 2022 election, voters will be electing two candidates to the board of commissioners for three-year terms. Jeffrey Jacobs and Richard Thompson are the commissioners whose terms are up. The town charter requires that a majority of commissioners be bona fide residents of the town. There is no maximum limit of resident commissioners. A minimum of one resident commissioner will be elected this year.   

The annual election for Henlopen Acres will be held from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 27, at town hall, 104 Tidewaters. Anyone who wants an absentee ballot packet should contact town hall at 302-227-6411. The deadline for requesting an absentee ballot to be sent by mail is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 23. Absentee ballots must be received at town hall no later than noon, Saturday, Aug. 27.
