Acres issues call for 2024 candidates

All candidates for Henlopen Acres town commissioner shall file their notice of intention to seek office with the town manager or mayor by 4:30 p.m., Friday, July 12.

Voters will be electing two candidates to the board of commissioners for three-year terms. The two commissioners up for re-election are Commissioner Tiffany Derrickson for the resident seat and Commissioner Beatrix ‘Paddy’ Richards for the nonresident seat. 

The town charter requires that a majority of commissioners be bona fide town residents, which means at least one resident commissioner will be elected this year. Accordingly, prospective candidates will be requested to file their intent to run as a resident or nonresident. There is no maximum limit of resident commissioners.

Anyone interested in registering to vote must do so by 4:30 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 1.

Absentee ballots can be obtained after Friday, July 12. The deadline to request an absentee ballot in person at town hall is noon, Friday, Aug. 30. The deadline to request an absentee ballot to be sent by mail is 4:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 27. Absentee ballots must be received at town hall no later than noon, Saturday, Aug. 31.

The annual election for Henlopen Acres will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, and polls will be open from 9 a.m. to noon at town hall, 104 Tidewaters.

Rehoboth City Hall closed June 19 

In observance of Juneteenth, Rehoboth Beach City Hall will be closed Wednesday, June 19. Normal hours will resume Thursday, June 20. For more information, call the city at 302-227-6181 or email info@cityofrehoboth.com.

Sussex budget on agenda

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 18, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are a public hearing on the proposed county fiscal year 2025 budget and an update presented by Planning and Zoning Director Jamie Whitehouse on the comprehensive plan.

Lewes parks panel to meet June 17

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet at 5 p.m., Monday, June 17, at the Rollins Center.

The agenda includes continued discussion and possible action regarding the Canalfront Park playground.
