Rehoboth shade tree commission meeting June 28

The Rehoboth Beach Parks and Shade Tree Commission will meet virtually at 10 a.m., Monday, June 28.

The agenda calls for three appeals hearings. The first is for 115 Rodney St., and is related to the denial of a tree-removal permit application for three trees and any determination of required tree plantings. The second is for 1 Rehoboth Ave. and is related to determination of a fee in lieu of planting two trees for minimum density. The third is for 503 Jones Lane and is related to determination of an appeal for a fee in lieu of mitigation including proposed planting of three trees as opposed to planting 29 trees.

Rehoboth Board of Adjustment meeting June 28

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 1:30 p.m., Monday, June 28, online and in person at city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave.

The agenda calls for consideration of a variance request at 405 Stockley St. Ext. The owners are seeking to have the board allow a fence of more than 42 inches tall to encroach in a side-yard setback.

Lewes Parks and Rec meets June 28

The Lewes Parks and Recreation Commission will meet virtually at 6:30 p.m., Monday, June 28. Commissioners will discuss striping the Canalfront Park tennis courts for pickleball. They will also receive an update on the pickleball facility subcommittee’s work. The group will discuss renaming Beach 1 and Beach 2. Commissioners will also receive updates from the Friends of Canalfront Park, Lewes Community Garden and Lewes Public Arts Committee. Lewes Mayor and City Council meets June 29

Lewes Mayor and City Council will meet in city hall at 10 a.m., Tuesday, June 29, to discuss a development agreement among the city, Lewes Senior Living Owner LLC and Lewes Attainable Housing LLC. Also on the agenda is possible action on proceeding with the use of American Rescue Plan Act funds for construction of bathrooms at the Rollins Community Center. City officials believe the project is eligible for the federal funds because it cannot fully resume in-person meetings until the building’s meeting room has public bathrooms. The meeting will also be livestreamed on the city’s YouTube channel. 

Next phase of Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail to begin July 6

The Delaware Department of Transportation announced that Phase 8 of the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail will begin Tuesday, July 6. This trail section will start near the Town of Georgetown Little League facility and finish at Airport Road, and will also tie into the Georgetown Gateway project.

Phase 8 will include construction of a multi-use pathway adjacent to the railroad near the Town of Georgetown to Airport Road, plus a connection to an existing trail network along Airport Road. Construction will also include paving, grading, fencing, and site amenities. The contractor for these improvements is Grassbusters Landscaping Company Inc.  

Phase 8 is anticipated to be complete by early October, pending weather.

There are four additional trail phases, and once the entire multi-use path is completed, the trail will cover 17 miles from Lewes to Georgetown.
