Sussex council will not meet Aug. 3
Sussex County Council will not meet Tuesday, Aug. 3. The next regularly scheduled meeting will be at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 10, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown.
Sussex council awards nonprofit grants
Sussex County Council awarded the following councilmanic grants during its July 27 meeting: $4,000 to Town of Ellendale for park playground renovations; $2,500 to Town of Georgetown for its Tuesday, Aug. 3, National Night Out at Richard Allen School; $1,000 to AIDS Delaware Inc. for the annual AIDS Walk Delaware; and $500 to Lower Sussex Little League for eastern regional softball tournament traveling expenses.
Crossing system planned on trail
The Delaware Department of Transportation will be installing a rectangular rapid flashing beacon system with advance pedestrian and bicyclist detection at an uncontrolled crosswalk on Sweetbriar Road at the Lewes-Georgetown Trail junction near Lewes.
The system is intended to alert motorists of pedestrians and bicyclists crossing the roadway and also to remind bicyclists to slow and yield or stop before crossing Sweetbriar Road.
Motorists using Sweetbriar Road and pedestrians/bicyclists along the trail should expect delays from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. Tuesdays through Thursdays, starting Aug. 3, until late-September.
