Sussex County Council meeting Aug. 29

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 29, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda is a presentation by Mark Isaacs, director of the Carvel Research and Education Center near Georgetown.

Among the public hearings, which start at 1:30 p.m., is a conditional-use application filed by Delaware Electric Cooperative for an electrical substation on a 38-acre parcel on the west side of Reynolds Road just north of Zion Church Road near Milton. Council is also expected to vote on three applications for solar farms.

Rehoboth awards street paving contract

During a meeting Aug. 18, Rehoboth Beach commissioners awarded a contract worth approximately $805,000 to Newark-based A-Del Construction for the city’s annual street paving.

The areas of Scarborough Avenue, from Hickman Street north to Christian Street, and Laurel Street, from Bayard Avenue to Scarborough Avenue, will be repaved as part of the city’s annual street paving program. There will also be a water main replaced on Laurel Street.

Rehoboth awards Scarborough contract

During a meeting Aug. 18, Rehoboth Beach commissioners awarded a contract to Bear-based JJID Inc. to repair the stormwater outfall that comes from Scarborough Avenue Extended into Silver Lake. The contract amount is $89,900. The engineer’s estimate provided to the city shows the project cost at $97,000.

Rehoboth shade tree meeting canceled

A Rehoboth Beach Parks & Shade Tree Commission meeting scheduled for Monday, Aug. 28, has been canceled because there were no agenda items to consider, according to an Aug. 16 city notice. For more information, contact the city at 302-227-6181 or information@cityofrehoboth.com.

Rehoboth Board of Adjustment to meet

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will meet at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Aug. 28, in the city hall commissioners room, 229 Rehoboth Ave. There are two variance request hearings on the agenda. The first is for 17 Stockley St., where the owners seek a variance to exceed the allowable lot coverage and natural area lot coverage to allow the placement of a 6-by-8-foot premanufactured accessory building. The second, for 17 Park Ave., is a request for a variance from building setback lines to allow a recently constructed single-family dwelling to remain that encroaches 0.4 feet-by-13.4-feet (2.68 square feet) in the side-yard setback.

Rehoboth sets hearing on administrative lot mergers

During a meeting Aug. 18, Rehoboth Beach commissioners set a public hearing for Friday, Sept. 15, related to an ordinance repealing administrative lot mergers and separations.

As proposed, the ordinance revises Chapter 236 of Rehoboth’s municipal code, Subdivision of Land and Site Plan Review, to create a mechanism for the planning commission to approve the consolidation or separation of certain lots in a summary manner.

Lewes council, BPW hold joint meeting

Lewes Mayor and City Council and Board of Public Works held their first joint meeting Aug. 22 to discuss capital projects. City engineer Charlie O’Donnell briefed both panels on infrastructure needs over the next five years. They are expected to hold quarterly joint meetings. For details, go to lewes.civicweb.net.
