Rehoboth BoA hearing Sept. 26

The Rehoboth Beach Board of Adjustment will hold a hearing at 2:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 26, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. On the agenda is a variance request for the floor-to-area ratio from the owners of 11 ½ Henlopen Ave., who would like to install a pergola over an existing structure.

Special Rehoboth  meeting set Sept. 27

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting on wind farms at 9 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for presentations from a number of different government agencies, wind farm representatives and policy experts on the potential impacts of wind farms off the Delaware coast.

Special Rehoboth meeting Sept. 28

Rehoboth Beach commissioners will hold a special meeting at 9 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 28, in the commissioners room of city hall, 229 Rehoboth Ave. The agenda calls for a possible executive session to discuss the qualifications of individual candidates for Rehoboth Beach city manager.

Sharkey reappointed to Lewes BOA

Lewes Mayor and City Council reappointed William Sharkey to the Board of Adjustment during its Sept. 12 meeting. 

Finance reports standing item for Lewes Parks & Rec

Monthly financial reports will now be a standing item on the Lewes Park and Recreation monthly meeting agenda.

Chair Janet Reeves explained Sep. 19 that mayor and city council receive and review the report during their monthly meetings.  The reports contain, among other items, financial information about the budget and expenses from each of Lewes’ parks.

Commissioners unanimously approved of the addition.

Zoning changes head to Lewes council

The Lewes Planning Commission approved sending the recommendations of the annexation zones subcommittee to mayor and city council during their Sept. 21 meeting.

An ordinance to amend articles and sections of Chapter 197 of the Lewes city code will be discussed by mayor and city council followed by a public hearing.

The subcommittee has suggested adding the following purposes to annexation residential zones: Encourage sociable, pedestrian-oriented neighborhoods, patterned on the City of Lewes and Traditional Neighborhood Design principles; incorporate a sense of place and identity with a central, flexible, usable community open space; provide greater design flexibility; encourage the interconnection of streets and walkways, trails, and multipurpose paths both internal and external; and respect neighboring development with similar density and building scale.  The ordinance has also added language that would create an easement allowing for public use over the trail or sidewalk that interconnects to another development’s trail or sidewalk. 

Sussex Dems Jamboree set Sept. 24

Sussex County Democratic Committee will hold its annual Jamboree fundraiser from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24, at Cape Henlopen State Park main pavilion, 15099 Cape Henlopen Drive, Lewes. All are welcome to attend for fun, great food, and a chance to meet area representatives and candidates.

Tickets may be purchased from Jamboree Chair Loretta Benson by calling 302-264-6412 or emailing lbenson24@icloud.com. Cost is $45 for ages 13 and up, $23 for ages 6-12 and free for children 5 and under. No tickets will be sold on the day of the event.

Sussex council will meet Sept. 27

Sussex County Council will meet at 10 a.m., Tuesday, Sept. 27, in the county administration building, 2 The Circle, Georgetown. Included on the agenda are a presentation by the Sussex Sports Foundation and a possible vote on the amended affordably priced rental units ordinance. Among the public hearings, scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m., are a conditional-use application filed by Sun Massey's Landing RV Inc. of Long Neck to amend a condition to allow park models to be stored on the property all year, and a proposed amendment to the county future land-use map and comprehensive plan to change the land designation of the existing Eagle Crest Aerodrome off Route 1 near Milton.

Sussex OKs Scenic Manor connection

On the recommendation of its engineering department, at its Sept. 20 meeting, Sussex County Council unanimously voted to allow MKR Land Investments LLC, the developer of Scenic Manor subdivision along Mulberry Knoll Road south of Route 24, to connect to existing county wastewater infrastructure. The developer will contribute $940,940 for a financial catch-up contribution of the existing infrastructure to allow for 324 units. Payment will be phased based on the number of building permits obtained. System connection charges are still in place.

Sussex plans for three new EMS stations

At its Sept. 20 meeting, Sussex County Council voted unanimously to accept a bid of not more than $452,000 from George, Miles & Buhr for architectural services for the construction of three new emergency medical services paramedic stations: Station 101 in Lincoln, Station 103 to serve Dagsboro and Millsboro, and Station 111 on Cave Neck Road west of Milton.
