Nowakowski scores five goals in Cape’s 20-2 win

The Cape girls’ lacrosse team ran the clock on visiting Dover April 19 at Champions Stadium, racing to a 13-1 halftime lead, then cruising home for a 20-2 victory. 

The Vikings improved to 6-0 and will play at Severna Park at 1 p.m., Saturday, April 22. The Falcons are the defending 3A Maryland state champions. 

Lexi Nowakowski had a breakout game with five goals. Claire Lopez tallied three, while Anna Sullivan and Carrie Clausius each had two. Single goals were scored by Allison Head, Olivia Burkentine, Lexi Truitt, Avary Miller, Lulu Rishko, Grace Wiggins, Lina Frederick and Addison Basile.  

Lopez had four assists, while Burkentine, Clausius, Steinwedel, Rishko and Wiggins each had one. 

Anna Lopez had two saves. Dover goalie Savanna Wise had six saves.

Dover goals were scored by Kylla Henry and Kehinde Adamolekun.

Cape outshot Dover 30-6.

The Senators fell to 3-4 on the season and will play at Sussex Tech (0-5) Friday, April 21. 

Coaches corner - Coach Lindsey Underwood: “The girls played a great game against Broadneck. They are really starting to play as one unit all over the field and make connections we were missing in the beginning of the season. Our defense has been doing a great job, and our attacking unit has really started coming together.”
