Osteoporosis doesn’t mean the end of activity

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy offers new wellness program

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy announced a new wellness program to empower women living with osteoporosis to stay active without fear.

Anyone who has osteoporosis or has received an unsettling bone scan may know how hard it can be to find sound advice on how to stay active.

Reading articles online or talking to a fitness instructor can reveal conflicting information. After trying a new gym program or home program online, people might not like the way they feel afterward. There can be a great deal of fear when it comes to deciding how to stay fit, active and live a full life of traveling, hiking, walks on the beach, playing with grandkids or any other physical activity desired. Sometimes just not knowing where to start the journey with osteoporosis can feel overwhelming.

“It’s really important to us to find simple ways to add movement and joy into our clients’ lives,” said Dr. Megan Anderson, PT, DPT, owner of Megan Anderson Physical Therapy.

Staying active in a sustainable, functional and fun way will not only help keep a person’s bones strong, but also has some very wonderful emotional benefits. It doesn’t have to be a crazy hard, five-day-a-week program.

“Our clients come in frustrated, overwhelmed and fearful of making things worse. They are also not ready to stop living very active and full lives. Many of them are newly retired with plans to travel the world and spend lots of time with their grandchildren,” Anderson said. “When they leave our practice, they have learned ways to move and hold themselves that feel simple, practical and sustainable.”

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy goes beyond traditional physical therapy to really dig in on what motivates clients on an emotional level. The team wants to know each client’s “why” and then come up with a plan that supports feeling excellent in their bodies.

“Your time is valuable, so we offer hour-long appointments that are always with your therapist, no more than once a week,” Anderson said. “It absolutely warms our hearts to hear when someone has gone on a trip and felt better than they ever have before with the tools that we have given them.”

Megan Anderson Physical Therapy recently welcomed Dr. Caitlin Ruggiero, PT, DPT, who heads up the osteoporosis wellness program. Ruggiero specializes in working with postmenopausal women to support them in living their lives to the fullest. Ruggiero also offers pelvic floor support, a staple of the practice since its inception.
