Outlet Liquors 5K: The best chased by the rest

June 30, 2021

Road running is a unique sport where the very best are chased by all the rest over a given distance set in motion by the same starting gun. The race is about going the distance, not about social distance. Wave starts and virtual runs are mostly gone; each race is a unique social occurrence. It's what keeps runners returning week after week.

The Outlet Liquors 5K attracted 180 runners June 27 in Dewey Beach, where 54 runners broke the standard 8-minute-per-mile pace.

Darian Sorouri, 25, won in 16:21, while his girlfriend Holly Manning, 24, was first woman in 18:52. Darian and Holly need to return to face off against the Fuller brothers and their running wives when they show up this summer.

There were 18 states plus Puerto Rico represented in the race.

A focus on the older age groups found six men in the 70-74 age group, with Davis Downing of Laurel winning that category in 25:55.

Normajane Davall, 69, of Lewes won her age group in 40:38.

The male 1-9 group was won by 8-year-old Landon Bratz of Bridgeville in 22:28 followed by Bruno Pelaez-Degabriele, 8, of Mississippi in 27:53.

Local Nick Prestipino, 27, won the 25-29 age group in 20:56. Steve Prestipino, 64, ran 45:27, while Lisa Prestipino ran 45:55.

Lori Waldee-Warden won the 55-59 age group in 28:54 followed by Lynn Decourcey in 29:00, Angela Swarm in 29:04 and Susan Decourcey in 32:08.

The next Races2Run event is the the 15th annual Dewey Beach Liquors 5K at Northbeach at 7:30 a.m., Sunday, July 4.
