Outlet Liquors and Watermelon 5Ks held on back-to-back days

Races2Run had back-to-back 5K races last weekend at the beach. The Outlet Liquors 5K held Aug. 24 at the Rusty Rudder drew 80 finishers, while the Aug. 25 WaterMel Run 5K in Lewes saw 127 runners go the distance. 

Matt Sparacino, 46, the Harrington Harrier, won the Outlet Liquors race in 18:05. John Gavenonis, 48, of Wilmington was male masters champion in 19:05.

Haley Wright, 26, of Boonsboro, Md., was overall female winner in 19:29. Amy DeRue, 53, of High Point, N.C., won the female masters race in 23:49.

The sixth annual WaterMel Run 5K was won by Manuel Pesqueria, 47, of Annapolis, Md., in 19:51. Whitney Cornforth, 46, of Arlington, Mass., was second overall and male masters winner in 20:05.

Kaitlyn Cavallucci, 22, of Milton was the overall women's winner in 22:39. Mardiny Ung, 57, of Elizabethtown, Pa., won the female masters race in 23:16. 

Labor Day weekend will feature the Seashore Striders’ Last Blast Prediction 5K Saturday, Aug. 31, from Grove Park in Rehoboth and the Races2Run Summer’s End 5K from Northbeach in Dewey Beach Sunday, Sept. 1.
