Overfalls Foundation From the Heart auction kicks off Nov. 16

November 11, 2020

No one needs to revisit the issues of 2020.  Sadly, the COVID virus crisis continues to touch everyone. Without being able to open the Lightship Overfalls and the Ship Store this year, The Overfalls Foundation revenue streams were all but eliminated.  However, upkeep of the ship continues and will be needed into 2021 no matter what the pandemic situation turns out to be.

The Overfalls Foundation is holding a virtual holiday silent auction titled From the Heart. This is hoped to be a small step on the way to recovery. All funds raised will be used to maintain the lightship and preserve its excellent condition which earned it a National Historic Landmark designation.

The theme From the Heart came from a wise artisan who said, “if you want your art to come alive, it must come from the heart.” All items in the auction have been donated by members of the foundation so that no solicitation of already stressed merchants was necessary.

Some of the special items included in the auction are a handmade quilt by prize-winning quilt artist Judy Battista, two unique birdhouses designed and built by Al Klineberger, a selection of holiday baked items by Jeanne Tolbert and a springtime private ship tour and dinner hosted by Foundation President Mike Saffina and museum curator Dr. Ray Glick. The included shipside meal will be provided by a local restaurants and served by foundation volunteers

The auction runs from Monday, Nov. 16 to Sunday, Dec. 6. To bid it will be necessary to register. To view the offerings and to register,  go to and follow the prompts.  This is an easy, stress free way to help the Overfalls Foundation and possibly win some delightful holiday treats.
