Pair of Aces representing Cape at Latin America Baseball Classic
Sometimes there is nothing better for an athlete to elevate their game than testing their skills against elite talent.
Max Selders will likely be tasked with replacing MiLB-bound Jase Mitchell as Cape’s backstop next spring. The rising senior is off to a good start, as he and incoming freshman Kasen Adams are on the LABC USA team for the Latin America Baseball Classic in Santa Domingo, Dominican Republic.
“After winning the state championship with Cape, I’m excited to now play on an international stage with kids from all over the U.S. and Latin America,” Selders said. “I’m honored to represent not only my country, but also Delaware and the Cape Region. This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I’m grateful to be a part of it.”
Selders and Adams, who play travel ball for the Aces, were chosen after trying out with hundreds of baseball players from across the nation. Selders was a member of Cape’s state championship team this past spring and has been a part of big games, but Adams, despite his youth, has shined at the middle school and Little League level.
In the past few years, Adams has dominated his age level, and is excited to sharpen his skills against players from what has become a hotbed for baseball.
“I am very proud to represent the United States in the Latin America Baseball Classic,” Adams said. “I have always wanted to play on an international level, and playing with such skilled and high level players is a big deal for me. I’m ready to give my all for my team, my country and the sport I love.”
Selders will be on the 16U to 18U roster, while Adams, who can pitch, play first or patrol the outfield, made the 13U team.
The games run July 31 through Tuesday, Aug. 5, and the boys will play two exhibition games before playing four games for seeding.
