In a time when live cultural and entertainment activities are limited, Paws for People has found a way to reach art enthusiasts and the general community both virtually and in person.

The Newark-based pet therapy organization will host Art from the Heart, a virtual art auction beginning Monday, Sept. 28, and running through Sunday, Oct. 4. More than 50 pieces have been donated by 30 local artists.

In addition, the public is invited to view and bid on the artwork live by appointment Friday and Saturday, Oct. 3 and 4, at the Paws for People office, 703 Dawson Drive, Newark.

Artwork can be previewed online Sept. 24-27. Online bidding will begin at 8 a.m., Sept. 28 at pawsforpeople.org/art. Online bidding will be put on hold during the live showings and will be open again from 3 to 11:59 p.m., Oct. 4.

Online bids will be the starting bids for the live show, and bids received at the show will be added to the online bidding list for the last phase of this event.

“This fundraising event is something a little different for Paws,” said Lynne Robinson, Paws for People executive director. “We recognize that people are thirsty for entertainment in this time of confinement, and we also were looking for ways to involve our community with Paws by offering something unusual they could participate in.”

Art from the Heart is sponsored by Jerry’s Artarama. All proceeds will benefit Paws for People programs and services. For more information and to reserve an in-person viewing time, contact Debbie Christian at dchristian@pawsforpeople.org or 302-351-5622.
