Peninsula Gallery sets Feathered Friends art reception April 1

March 25, 2023

Birds of a feather flock together, and they’ll be landing in an exhibit at the Peninsula Gallery this spring.

Feathered Friends features various bird portraits from 10 juried artists. An opening reception will be held from 5 to 6:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1, with some of the artists in attendance.

The show’s chirping chappies are brought to life through a mixture of mediums from oil to fiber, photography and sculpture, highlighting the grace, intelligence and whimsy of different bird breeds. Viewers will fly away with eagles, egrets, chickens, robins, flamingos, puffins and more.

The migrating fowl are depicted in a traditional realism style, with some artists opting to focus on specific parts of the birds, such as eyes, beaks or faces. Other artists have painted each detail of their flittering subjects, showcasing their magical colors, textures and poses.

Tony Boyd-Heron, gallery co-owner and exhibition director, said, “Each bird portrait has its own playful energy that captures your imagination. You’ll fall in love and be in awe of these stunning animals, wanting to take them all home with you! This is an excellent show, and we’re excited for patrons to be able to see it.”

The exhibition’s tufted friends are crafted by Jackie Atkins, Kristin Blanck, Carrie Hildebrand, Virgil Holmes, John Hoyt, Kathryn Hunter Luciana, Brenda Kidera, Rinal Parikh, Maggii Sarfaty and Susan Shalowitz.

Works from the show can be previewed at peninsula-gallery.com and will be on display through Sunday, April 30.

The gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday, in the Village Shoppes at the Beacon Inn, 520 East Savannah Road, Lewes.
