Philadelphia man faces charges following DUI stop
A Philadelphia man faces drug and weapon charges following a DUI stop Dec. 14 in Millsboro.
A trooper on patrol about midnight spotted a Dodge Charger traveling northbound on DuPont Boulevard near Centerview Drive with a headlight out, and when the trooper pulled the car over, police said, he could smell marijuana, and the driver appeared impaired.
Following standardized field sobriety tests, police took Jose Morales-Colon, 61, into custody without incident. During a search of the car, police said they found about 8.77 grams of cocaine; about 0.72 grams of marijuana; 0.5 dosage units of suspected oxycodone; a large, serrated machete concealed in the rear passenger seat; and $8,135 in suspected drug proceeds.
Morales-Colon was taken to Troop 4 where he was charged with possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance tier 2, and other drug and traffic violations.
He was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7, and committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $51,503 cash bond.
