Pianist Maria Adele Scott and soprano Rebecca Fanning in Bridgeville Sept. 23

September 10, 2017

Pianist Maria Adele Scott, a two-time Coastal Concerts scholarship recipient and previous R.A.V.E. concert performer, will join soprano Rebecca Fanning in Coastal Concerts' third free R.A.V.E. concert of the 2017-18 season at 7 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23, at Union United Methodist Church, 2 North Laws St., Bridgeville.

The R.A.V.E. (Rising Artists and Venue Expansion) concert series, sponsored in part by The Longwood Foundation, features newly notable artists performing where residents have limited opportunities to experience classical music. Admission is free and seating is on a first-come basis.

An artist who plays with honesty and brilliance, Scott frequently performs on the East Coast as soloist, chamber musician and collaborative pianist. A Delaware native, she began piano lessons with her father at age 6 and later studied with Liliya Maslov at the Music School of Delaware where she has since appeared for several years in the concert series as a guest alumna. Scott entered the Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University in 2010 and enjoyed an illustrious student career that included the formation of Trio Ethos, a piano trio composed of Peabody students. She was accepted into Peabody's prestigious five-year master's program where she earned a master of music degree in piano performance under the tutelage of Brian Ganz. Scott has performed in venues including the Peabody's Friedberg Concert Hall, The Grand Opera House of Delaware, Kennedy Center and Carnegie Hall.

Scott is back by popular demand as a R.A.V.E. participant, having performed in Bridgeville April 23, 2016 with vocalist Tariq Al-Sabir. In addition to performing, she maintains a private teaching studio, is an accompanist for the Peabody Preparatory and is on the faculty at the Baltimore School of Music.

A staunch believer in the unifying power of music, Fanning seeks to bridge societal and psychological gaps among diverse audience members by creating authentic musical experiences across a wide range of repertoire. Fanning is also a graduate of Peabody Conservatory's master's degree program, earning her degree in voice performance and receiving the George Castelle Memorial Award in Voice. She recently performed with the New York Lyric Opera as Madame Herz in scenes from Mozart's Der Schauspieldirektor at Lincoln Center, and for three seasons she toured with the Amalfi Coast Music and Arts Festival in Italy. Fanning recently returned to her Texas roots as the soprano soloist in the Denton Bach Society Orchestra's performance of Handel's Messiah, uniquely presented with authentic baroque period instruments.

Though a lover of classical repertoire, Fanning also enjoys performing new music literature, especially in collaboration with young and established composers alike. This January, she was invited to perform as a guest artist with the New Music Concert Series of Sam Houston State University, singing the works of Jason Mulligan.

Fanning is a member of both the Peabody Conservatory and Southern Methodist University chapters of the prestigious Alpha Lambda Delta Music & Academic Honor Society.

Scott and Fanning will perform a diverse program including works by Debussy and Strauss, as well as a selection of spirituals. Scott will also perform Samuel Barber's Excursions and Chopin's Fantasie in f minor, Op. 49.
