The weather could not have been nicer for the second annual Cape Gazette Run & Fun Fest, held May 11 at Nassau Commons outside Lewes.
The day began with more than 150 people running in a 5K through Nassau Valley Vineyards, past the Lewes Fire Department and Lewes Senior Activity Center before turning around for a finish in front of the Cape Gazette office. A basketball shootout at The Factory and a pickleball tournament at Dave Marshall Tennis were also held for the active crowd.
The celebration continued with a family-friendly festival in the Nassau Commons parking lot, where kids enjoyed horseback rides, face painting and a petting zoo from The Little Farm; a bounce house; magnet decorating with the Developing Artist Collaboration; and a DIY tie-dye shirt station with DB Tie Dye. For the adults, a beer garden featuring brews from Big Oyster, Crooked Hammock, Brick Works and Dewey Beer kept people’s thirst quenched. DD Project Wines were available for the non-beer drinkers in the crowd.
Taco Reho, Sarcastic Chef, Cup’r Cone, Donut NV and Kona Ice trucks made sure no one went hungry. Kyle Offidani and Spokey Speaky provided entertainment for the afternoon.
The grounds also featured info tables and displays from a number of nonprofit organizations, artists and artisans, and health and wellness groups.
The event raised money for the Harry K Foundation, which aims to meet nutritional needs for food-insecure children across Delaware.
