Place a moratorium on Old Landing Road

January 23, 2015

I am writing this letter in reference to the Old Landing Golf Course development submitted by Osprey Point D. LLC.

I attended the Sussex County Council hearing on Jan. 8. During the presentation from the lawyer representing the owner of the golf course, it was repeated several times in his presentation “Who cares?” Who cares?

We care as residents along Old Landing Road. There are approximately 2,000 homes and at least 4,000-8,000 people at peak season. There is one way in and one way out. If fire trucks and other emergency vehicles cannot access our respective homes, at time of dire need, this is a dead end for us. Yes, we care, even if the developers do not care. Our health and safety do matter to the residents.

Where is the solution? Nobody has asked this question.

First solution: Build a bridge across Arnell Creek and a return road back to Warrington Road.

This would give us a second exit and entrance to our community.

At present, the area of the roadway is farmland and flat ground.

Second solution: Build a bridge across Arnell Creek and a roadway connecting to Mulberry Knoll Road, which connects directly to Route 24.

Yes, there is the cost of the bridge and roadway, but this will be money well spent to ensure our safety and well-being.

In closing, I respectfully urge a building moratorium be placed on Old Landing Road until the safety of all residents has been resolved in the community.
