Planet Fitness coming to Rehoboth Beach

Gym franchise taking over former Bed Bath & Beyond building
August 6, 2025

Planet Fitness is planning to take over the former location of Bed Bath & Beyond in the Rehoboth Gateway shopping center off Route 1 outside Rehoboth Beach.

“We’re incredibly excited to bring Planet Fitness to the Rehoboth Beach community,” said Dominique States, regional director at National Fitness Partners, a leading Planet Fitness franchise. “This 23,000-square-foot facility will feature state-of-the-art cardio machines, the latest strength equipment and a relaxing Black Card Spa. As with all Planet Fitness locations, our goal is to make fitness affordable and accessible for everyone. While we’re still in the early stages of construction, we can’t wait to open our doors and welcome members before the end of the year.”

Planet Fitness was founded in 1992, in Dover, N.H. Today, Planet Fitness has more than 2,700 locations in 50 states, the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, Canada, Panama, Mexico and Australia.

Bed Bath & Beyond announced it was filing for bankruptcy and closing all its retail stores in April 2023. Not long after, the Rehoboth Beach location closed.

Bed Bath & Beyond opened in June 2016 at the same time as Wawa and The Fresh Market, which are still in business in Rehoboth Gateway.
