A bronze plaque recognizing the many achievements of former Lewes Mayor James L. Ford III was recently installed by the city on the Net House, overlooking Canalfront Park.
A facsimile of the plaque was presented to Ford by the Greater Lewes Foundation during “Mayor Ford Appreciation Day,” May 18, 2014, after which the large plaque was cast by Healy Plaques of Manville, R.I.
The plaque reads:
Jim Ford spent five years on the Lewes Planning Commission before serving six two-year terms on Lewes City Council. He succeeded George HP Smith as Mayor and was re-elected four times without opposition before retiring in 2014.
His major achievements included Second Street revitalization; Bay Avenue rehabilitation; City Hall expansion; improvement of Lewes electrical and water systems, and wastewater treatment plant; and the creation of the Lewes Canalfront Park.
Mayor Ford also led the effort to purchase the property for a new Lewes Public Library and trailhead for the region’s cycling and walking trails.
Mayor James L. Ford, III is hereby commended for his outstanding service as an elected official of Lewes for the past 22 years.
