Playoff review

August 21, 2020

The NBA playoffs are in full swing. The 76ers are down 2-0 in the series against the Boston Celtics and will probably be eliminated by the end of next week. They have looked awful on defense ever since the season restarted. Since there is no home court advantage this season, I would be surprised if they even win one game in the series. I think the teams that can win the championship are the Los Angeles Lakers, the Milwaukee Bucks or the defending champion Toronto Raptors. The finals will be in late September or early October.

The Flyers are up 3-2 in their series against the Montréal Canadiens. They should be able to advance to the next round. If they want to contend for the Stanley Cup, their power-play must get better. Until last night's game they were 1-for-25 since the restart. I think the Flyers are the only Philadelphia team that has a chance to win a championship this year. I can't include the Eagles because nobody knows what’s going to happen to the NFL season. Football is probably the most difficult sport to play in the pandemic, because of the physical contact on every play. There's still much to be decided.

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup playoffs start this week at the TPC Boston Golf course with the typical 125 players starting. This year there are only three events in the playoff. There are only 70 players in the second event and then 30 players for the tour championship. I think either Justin Thomas, Rory McIlroy or Bryson DeChambeau will win the FedEx Cup in Atlanta. I think Tiger Woods will make it to the Tour Championship this year, but he will not win. We’ll see what happens.

For all you tennis fans, the U.S. Open will start on Aug. 31. It will really be odd to see that with no fans and no Rafa Nadal. It's still a good thing to see tennis added to the sports venue regardless.

It's hard to believe the summer is already coming to a close. We need a restart. Have a good weekend everyone.
