Possums to hold ‘Social Security’ comedy auditions

March 9, 2023

Possum Point Players and Director Peter Cuesta of Ocean Pines, Md., will hold open auditions for the comedy “Social Security” from Thursday to Saturday, March 16 to 18, at Possum Hall, 441 Old Laurel Road, Georgetown. Audition times will be 6 p.m., Thursday and Friday, and 2 p.m., Saturday.

Written by Andrew Bergman, “Social Security” is a comedy of family maneuvering and balancing that remains the same from generation to generation.

The cast requires three men and three women: two men and two women ranging in age from 40 to 60, one woman, late 60s to 70s, and one man, 70s to 80s. Cuesta said the role of the older woman is that of a quintessential New York Jewish mother, and the elderly gentleman is a sophisticated and charming artist who might have an Israeli accent.

Auditions will be cold reads from presented sides, and the director recommends those auditioning familiarize themselves with the script and the character type in which they are interested. Production dates are Friday to Sunday, June 2 to 4, and June 9 to 11. Those cast must be available for all show dates.

Co-sponsored by MCH Wealth Management of Janney Montgomery Scott LLC and the Possum Point Players, “Social Security” is being produced through special arrangement with Concord Theatricals.

Possum Point Players values diversity and inclusion in casting, and in all other areas of the organization.
