Printmaking exhibits to open at Rehoboth Art League April 5

March 27, 2024

In April, the Rehoboth Art League will showcase two printmaking exhibits along with Temre Stanchfield’s solo exhibition, Homage: 12 Portraits of Earth, in its galleries at 12 Dodds Lane, Henlopen Acres.

An opening reception for the exhibits will be held from 5 to 7 p.m., Friday, April 5, when anyone interested may visit the Corkran, Tubbs, and Ventures galleries to see the displayed work. The exhibitions will continue through Sunday, May 5.

The Rehoboth Art League team welcomes the American Color Print Society for its show, No Boundaries: The Art of Printmaking Today, which will be on display in the Corkran Gallery featuring pieces from its members. The exhibition will showcase how the process of printmaking has evolved over the years and will incorporate different techniques used in the craft today.

Stanchfield’s oil paintings will provide a contrast from the print work as her solo show takes over the Tubbs Gallery. Based in southern Pennsylvania, Stanchfield used the calendar to develop 12 abstract paintings expressing gratitude for the natural world. She describes her creative process as similar to the experience of communing with nature – the peacefulness and stillness, and a glimpse of the interconnection of all things.

In the Ventures Gallery, Mark Harris’ solo exhibition, Against the Tyranny of Time, adds to the printmaking medium on display in April. His work explores the imbedded social struggles that make art both necessary and a distraction from that exploration. Recent work has centered around ways to try to remember the more than a million U.S. deaths from COVID, and how efforts to resist despair on many fronts are met by the need for hope that is not based on false promises for an easy fix. Printmaking, particularly relief prints in black and white, provides a stark and often suggestive means of giving a visual voice to that exploration.
