Race for Open Space 5K in Lewes benefits Fourth Street Preserve

The third annual Race for Open Space 5K and 1-Mile Walk for the Lewes Fourth Street Preserve attracted 110 runners and walkers April 25.

The race started and finished at George H.P. Smith Park, which includes Blockhouse Pond. 

Matthew Quandt, 30, of Milton was the overall winner in 19:14. Zach Kindt, 42, of Palmyra, Pa., was second overall and first masters finisher in 19:24. 

Clara Kindt, 12, was first female in 21:32, while Amelia Kindt, also 12, was the second overall female in 21:38. Sheena Kindt, 41, won the 40-49 age group in 24:03  

Jamie Hicks, 48, of Milton was female masters winner in 21:50.

The very competitive 70-99 male age group was won by Richard Tikiob, 71, in 25:06 over Donald Cowie, 70, in 25:20 and Jeff Palmer, 71, in 27:15. 

The next Seashore Striders local event is the 17th Seashore Half-Marathon, Relay and 5K at 8 a.m., Saturday, May 2, at Irish Eyes in Lewes. The races start on Market Street Extended on Lewes Beach.
