Racial justice alliance awards HOB students

De’Naya Hinton, Jazon Jones earn school honors
May 13, 2021

H.O. Brittingham students De’Naya Hinton and Jazon Jones were recognized in May with the African American/Black Achievement Award from the Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice.

Students were chosen because they demonstrate leadership, improvement, effort and excellence.

Jazon recently transitioned from remote to in-person learning and has done a wonderful job with his return to school, teachers said. While working on a class project recently, he demonstrated leadership skills by suggesting how to do the research and then dividing up the parts of the pioneer presentation. Jazon is an excellent example of how Cape students thrive when they return to in-person learning, teachers said.

De’Naya has been a remote learner at HOB since the beginning of the year. She works hard in the remote setting and has done an exceptional job learning this year, teachers said, and she completes her work and attends Zoom meetings to interact with teachers and classmates. De’Naya is an excellent example of how Cape students thrive in the remote-learning environment, teachers said.

Each student received a $15 gift card to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth; SDARJ contributes $10 to each gift card, and Browseabout contributes $5.

SDARJ’s education committee initiated the award to recognize students in the Cape district who represent ideals of leadership, effort and excellence in their schools. A nonpartisan organization, SDARJ educates, informs and advocates for racial justice, equality and fair opportunity. For more information, go to sdarj.org.
