Racial justice alliance recognizes Beacon students

December 16, 2025

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored Beacon Middle School students Santana Bennett and Kendall DeShields for their leadership, effort and excellence. The students were recognized in a ceremony at the school and received $20 gift cards to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

According to his teachers, Santana Bennett is a kind classmate who works well with others and sets a good example of what teamwork is all about. He has shown progress in his classroom effort and continues to make a difference on his athletic teams.

Kendall DeShields is always willing to help others while caring about her own schoolwork, her teachers said. She advocates for herself and others; she’s never afraid to ask a question or ask for help when she needs it. Kendall is a model student who gives 100% effort on her schoolwork.

SDARJ initiated the African American Achievement Award to recognize students who represent the ideals of leadership, improvement, effort and excellence in their schools. Students from each school in the Cape Henlopen and Indian River school districts are recognized throughout the school year.
