Racial justice alliance recognizes Rehoboth Elementary students

The Southern Delaware Alliance for Racial Justice recently honored Rehoboth Elementary School students Emillia Correa Bailey and Troy Peterson for their leadership, effort and excellence. The students were recognized in a ceremony at the school and received $20 gift cards to Browseabout Books in Rehoboth Beach.

According to her teacher Keri Mitchell, second-grader Emillia “Millie” Correa Bailey loves learning about math because she finds it easy. She likes helping people and wants to be a teacher when she finishes college. Millie said, “Leaders follow rules,” so she admires anyone who follows rules.

Mitchell said, “Millie is an exceptional elementary student whose enthusiasm for learning shines in every classroom activity. She is self-motivated and approaches new challenges with confidence. Millie has a genuine desire to grow as a reader. She is extremely kind and helpful to her peers, works well with classmates and is a role model.”

Troy Peterson is a third-grader in the Spanish Immersion program at Rehoboth Elementary. He said loves his related arts classes, especially library, because he loves to read. Troy wants to be a video game tester when he grows up. When he is not in school, Troy likes to read, play and watch television. He also enjoys chess and traveling. Troy believes leaders should set an example for others to follow.
