Rally against state quarantine planned May 1 in Dover

Group to meet at noon at Legislative Hall to oppose restrictions
April 28, 2020

A Reopen Delaware Rally is planned from noon to 3 p.m., Friday, May 1, at Legislative Hall in Dover.

The rally is supported by Delawareans Against Excessive Quarantine, a group whose mission statement says it supports solutions to overcome the COVID-19 pandemic without putting Delawareans out of work and at risk for catastrophic societal and economic impacts.

“We are opposed to the current restrictions imposed by Gov. [John] Carney because they have inflicted grave risk and harm on the residents and businesses of Delaware. We demand that Gov. Carney remove these restrictions immediately and reopen Delaware so its residents can freely and openly meet, gather, exchange in trade, participate in activities, and travel to places they desire - while they are appropriately practicing good personal hygiene and other risk-reduction habits,” the group states on its webpage.

The group lists 5,600 members on its Facebook page, and states the rally will meet at Legislative Hall and Legislative Mall. No one from the group could be reached for comment.

Its website also included the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's recommendations including social distancing of 6 feet or more and wearing a personal protective mask in crowds.
