Reading the Gazette on Driftwood Beach

June 24, 2023

Bev Schuder and Susan Howard of Rehoboth recently vacationed on Edisto Island in South Carolina. They spent an adventurous day on Driftwood Beach located near the Botany Bay Heritage Plantation. The beach is breathtaking and serene; it seems untouched by humans. It holds fascinating history that dates back to the Gullah-Geechee people that were West Africans who were enslaved to work the rice fields and serve the plantation owners. The driftwood lying on shore creates unique designs as if it were artwork.
