Rehoboth’s Boardwalk was as popular in 1915 as it is today
The Boardwalk in Rehoboth Beach is usually capitalized because many properties fronting the Boardwalk have it as their postal address. This postcard scene from 1915 shows the crowded Boardwalk when it lay oceanward of a street - Surf Avenue - that gave wheeled vehicles access to the front of buildings that faced the ocean.
Surf Avenue still exists today, but only north of the Boardwalk. Most of the original street is long gone, taken by storms and other infrastructure accommodations required for an oceanfront community.
