Rehoboth’s Coffee Mill featured on NBC

Celeb Hoda Kotb is regular customer
June 30, 2011

Tucked away in Rehoboth Mews, the Coffee Mill is a destination for residents and visitors alike. Featuring more than 100 organic and fair-trade varieties, the Coffee Mill delights customers with savory brews and sweet treats.

Coffee Mill Owner Mel Damascena, originally of Brazil, now spends most of his year in Rehoboth Beach. His photography is also featured throughout the small shop.

One of his regular customers is Hoda Kotb, co-host of the Hoda and Kathie Lee show on the NBC morning lineup. On June 13, Hoda and Kathie Lee featured some of their favorite things, and Hoda picked the Coffee Mill as hers.

"Hoda comes in very often. She asked me to come on the show, as our coffee is one of her favorite things," Damascena said. "I went to New York Sunday, and the whole experience was fantastic. It was just a lot of fun to be there."

On the air, Damascena presented Hoda with organic medium-roast Jungle Java, one of her favorite selections at the Rehoboth coffee house.

He presented Kathie Lee Gifford with the dark roast Midnight Sun.

Damascena reopened the Coffee Mill in December 2009, after it had been closed for a few months in between owners. He has been running it ever since. One of his favorite memories with Hoda is of a recent birthday celebration, when she and her family sat outside and drank Coffee Mill coffee for hours, enjoying the beverages and the beautiful day in Rehoboth.

"Running the coffee shop has been a blast," he said. "Growing up in Brazil, I really came to love coffee. It's a good feeling that you are doing something people enjoy."

The Coffee Mill is open daily from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. in Rehoboth Mews at 127 Rehoboth Ave. For more information, visit www.coffeemillrehoboth.com.

"Business has been good so far this summer. We have had lines out the door, which is always great to see," Damascena said. "Rehoboth is a very friendly city. Everyone is welcome and everyone can feel comfortable here."
