Rehoboth Beach man, 60, critically injured in bike crash
A bicyclist was critically injured Aug. 9 after a crash on Sweetbriar Road near Milton at the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail.
The crash happened at 4:41 p.m. as a Ford Expedition driven by a Milton teen, 17, was traveling southbound on Sweetbriar Road approaching the Lewes-to-Georgetown Trail. At the same time, police said, a Rehoboth Beach man, 60, was bicycling westbound on the trail and, for reasons still under investigation, proceeded to cross Sweetbriar Road into the path of the Expedition. As a result, police said, the Expedition struck the bicyclist, who was taken to an area hospital with critical injuries.
The teen driver was not injured.
The roadway was closed for an extended time while the scene was investigated and cleared. The investigation remains ongoing, and police ask anyone who witnessed the crash or has relevant information to contact Trooper Catalfamo by calling Troop 7 at 302-644-5020.
