A few months into operating the new Rehoboth Beauty Boutique, owner Rodney Treusdell and shop director Jahnava Carpenito say they are looking to provide their customers with an experience that’s not offered at other salons.

“This place has a vibe,” said Carpenito during a recent interview. “Customers will see there’s a lot of energy when they walk in, and the two of us love to find out what customers are all about.”

Rehoboth Beauty Boutique is located in Henlopen Square next to Casa DiLeo off Rehoboth Avenue Extended. Treusdell opened the new business in February. Carpenito joined as director of the boutique in March.

Even though the space previously housed a salon, Treusdell had the interior completely redone, including new equipment, to create a new vibe.

“Everything is brand new,” said Treusdell.

“It was tore up from the floor up,” added Carpenito.

Rehoboth Beauty Boutique features the skin-rejuvenation services of Shea Ellis-Hay and Stephanie Duphily, medical estheticians who own Restore Your Glow.

Carpenito said Restore Your Glow specializes in facials, peels, microneedles, IV hydration and injectables. It’s all medical-grade skin treatments, she said.

Treusdell and Carpenito share a passion for good customer service, but they have opposite personalities. Treusdell is quiet and reserved, while Carpenito is outspoken and ready to roll.

It’s a good combination, said Treusdell.

Carpenito said she’s been working in the industry since she was a teenager, when she was told her profession should be something she’d love and do for free. So, she said, she went to beauty school in Salem, Mass., and she’s never looked back.

“I had been doing up-dos on friends and putting extensions on my Barbies for as long as I could remember,” said Carpenito, laughing. Decades later, and with experience working at top salons on both American coasts, she continues to have that same passion. “I still love it. I get to play with hair for a living.”

Having worked in salons across the country, Carpenito settled in the Cape Region area to be close to family. She has spent the last few years working at a salon in downtown Rehoboth Beach. She said she appreciated the opportunity, but wanted a chance to manage a salon, and she’s now looking forward to that growth.

It’s about being able to help start a new business, said Carpenito.

Treusdell’s journey to owning a beauty boutique was not a birthright, but it’s his second go at a personal care business. He’s a retired federal government employee who learned the art of Chinese massage after retiring. He used that knowledge to open his massage studio in Rehoboth.

“I like talking with all the customers who come in,” said Treusdell.

Like many small businesses, Rehoboth Beauty Boutique is looking for employees. Willing to teach the right candidates, Carpenito said they’re looking for stylists who are service-oriented, self-motivated and confident.
