Rehoboth Elementary supports Sussex food drive

Rehoboth Elementary School continued its long-standing tradition of hosting an annual holiday food drive, which has become a meaningful event for students, families and staff.
This year’s drive proved to be one of the most successful in school history. The Rehoboth Elementary community donated a total of 3,268 pounds of nonperishable food, benefiting the Sussex County Council Food Drive as part of Georgetown’s annual Caroling on The Circle event.
“Last year as a school, we collected 2,676.8 pounds of nonperishable food during the initial drive. This year, we collected almost 600 pounds more,” said Scott Pierce, a Rehoboth Elementary teacher. “The final total was 3,268 pounds, which is incredible.”
Students in Pierce’s class played a key role in organizing and promoting the food drive, helping raise awareness across the school. Contributions poured in from students’ families and staff members, highlighting the strong sense of community and generosity at Rehoboth Elementary.
As part of the drive, classrooms competed in a friendly challenge to collect the most food by weight. “Each year, we recognize the classroom that brings in the most weight,” Pierce said. “This year, the class that ultimately collected the most food was William Esquival’s third-grade class, which donated an impressive 414 pounds of nonperishable items.”
