Rehoboth library summer readers made program a success

September 25, 2024

As summer turned to fall, the Rehoboth Beach Public Library turned the page on another rewarding Summer Reading Program, bringing a season of adventure and discovery to an exciting end.

This year’s theme, Adventure Begins at Your Library, invited kids and teens to try new hobbies, read new genres and explore their local communities. Altogether, 1,925 books were read by 123 participants, 59 of whom completed the library’s challenge of reading at least 10 books. And they didn’t stop there – for every reading log they completed, students received a free book of their choice to keep the adventures going all year long.

“Our summer reading program was such a big success this year,” said Children’s Librarian Shannon Davis. “At our Summer Reading Wrap Party, we had 43 people attend, even though inclement weather forced us to relocate to the library. We had readers lined up at the children's desk and waving their reading logs, excited to show off how many books they’d read.”

In the last weeks of summer reading, dozens of students contributed hundreds of books to the program’s total as they returned from vacation and prepared for the new school year. In the final days, especially diligent readers could be found paging through stacks of books, eager to earn tickets for fun and tasty raffle prizes. Now that school is back in session, Davis said, “It’s great to know that so many kids and teens are headed back to school with their reading skills still strong, ready for their next adventure.”
