Rehoboth woman competes on ‘The Floor’
Rehoboth Beach resident Tania Pritz will be representing Delaware on the national television stage this fall as a contestant on “The Floor,” a trivia-based game show hosted by Rob Lowe. The new season premieres Wednesday, Sept. 24 on Fox, and will be available the following day on Hulu.
Pritz was selected out of a large pool of candidates after going through an extensive application process. With this new season pitting the states against each other, Delaware will be represented by two contestants, including Pritz, who will face off against players from all over the country.
“I was recovering from back surgery,” said Pritz. “I was watching a lot of TV during my recovery on the couch last winter. I’m a big fan of Rob Lowe, and I saw some prior episodes and decided to apply.”
“The Floor” is a high-stakes trivia competition where 100 contestants stand on a massive, checkerboard-style stage. Each square holds a player, and contestants challenge one another in visual trivia battles to take control of their opponent’s space. The goal is to conquer as much of the board as possible, with the last contestant standing declared the winner. The season’s ultimate winner will take home a $250,000 cash prize.
“And the ‘Randomizer’ is like a big thing,” said Pritz. “Activate the ‘Randomizer’ and everyone kind of freaks out because the light blinks all around the floor, and it might land on you. Then all of a sudden you have to play.”
Filming for the show took place in Ireland. All of the contestants experienced full days of wardrobe, makeup and on-set preparations.
“I felt like a Kardashian in a room with all these people, and they’re doing your hair, and they’re putting on more makeup than you’ve ever worn, and they’re checking out your wardrobe,” said Pritz.
While the schedule was intense, the experience formed strong bonds between the contestants. Pritz said many contestants still keep in touch and some even created shirts to celebrate the airing of the show.
