RELYance Skim Camp to host free event May 16

May 3, 2015

RELYance Skim Camp is getting ready for another summer season in 2015, teaching children and adults of all ages to enjoy the fast-growing sport of skimboarding. To kick off summer 2015, RELYance will be offering a free event, open to the public, Saturday, May 16, at the south side of Indian River Inlet.

Professional skimboarders and RELYance Skim Camp owners Dave and Tom Bracht will provide instruction to all participants. Don’t have a skimboard? No problem. Exile skimboards will be provided for all participants to use and try out. There will also be games and other activities to participate in throughout the day. This free event will run from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

RELYance Skim Camp, founded in early 2014, focuses on providing kids in the community a chance to learn the great sport of skimboarding, taught by positive role models. The brothers are professional skimboarders with more than 15 years of combined experience providing lessons and instruction. Working with Exile Skimboards, the brothers developed their own skimboard model called the Chub Scout. This board was designed specifically for East Coast conditions, but it has been proven worldwide.

“The goal at our summer camps is to teach our campers more than just skimboarding,” said Dave Bracht. “We want to teach them to make good choices, and follow their dreams and aspirations.”

Many families and children participated in RELYance Skim Camps last summer and gave positive reviews. One parent, Elle Scheaffer, whose son Andrew attended the camps, said, “Dave and Tom are inspiring and motivating; they have a love and a real gift for teaching kids. They are role models, both on and off the surf, and are very responsive to the kids’ differences and abilities, and ultimately build upon their strengths.”

While at the event, attendees can pick up additional information and learn more about RELYance’s skim camps that are running all summer long just south of Dewey Beach.
