The Reminders to perform benefit concert Aug. 28 in Ocean View

August 12, 2015

Ocean View Presbyterian Church will present The Reminders in concert at 7 p.m., Friday, Aug. 28. in the Memorial Hall at the church at 67 Central Ave. This benefit concert will support Water4, a charity that provides clean water sources in remote countries around the world.

Ocean View Presbyterian Church, with 77 members, has had a relationship with Water4, whose offices are in Oklahoma City, for the last 18 months. They are a long way from each other in miles, but both believe in helping people all over the world.

The Women’s Circle of Ocean View has found ways over the years to raise money to help others since the church was founded in 1856, and their latest philanthropy is Water4. They formed a three-year partnership with Water4 and hoped they would be able to raise enough money for one well each year, at $1,500 each.

Now 18 months later, the OVPC women have earned enough to build eight wells in northern Zambia for villages where women had to walk over three hours each way to a water source that was usually contaminated. Now they have their own wells in their villages. Jim Stewart, director of partner development for Water4, will be at the concert Aug. 28 to tell more about their work. Stewart will preach at worship at Ocean View Sunday, Aug. 30. For more information about their work, go to water4.org.

The Reminders are a local group from three towns near the shore. John Thompson of Rehoboth co-wrote the Grammy winner, “El Shaddai.” Ed Shockley of Lewes is a singer and songwriter who spent 17 years in New York City. Kevin Short of Georgetown is a record producer and vocalist. Their music is described as hearty Americana, leathery country, and bluesy soul. They have incredible harmonies and life stories - sharing their life through their music.  For more information, go to www.thereminders.net. Ocean View Presbyterian is grateful to them for caring about clean water.

This will be a great evening of music and giving. Tickets are $15 each and are available now by calling 301-247-9711. They can also be purchased at the door Aug. 28. For more information, go to www.ovpc.org.
