Republicans hear from Delaware Family Policy Council president Nicole Theis

May 6, 2018

Nicole Theis, founder and president of the Delaware Family Policy Council Inc., spoke to a crowd of more than 60 attendees at the 38th District Republican Club April meeting.

She started by saying the vision of the council was for Delaware to be a state where God is honored, religious freedom flourishes, families thrive and life is cherished. Theis said the council’s mission centers on rebuilding, advocating and cultivating a culture of life, marriage, family and religious freedom. She emphasized family values, stating that strong families build strong communities.

Some issues addressed by the organization were brought up for discussion, such as HB 160 regarding assisted suicide. Theis said that term “terminal” needs to be defined clearly and include at what point is someone terminal.

She said Regulation 225 would allow children as young as 5 years old to self-identify their gender and/or race without parents’ knowledge. Theis said this would contribute greatly to the breakdown of the family and stressed how intrusive the government could get if parental rights are weakened.

HB 399, the Equal Rights Amendment, generated a lot of discussion. Generally, group members said they had read that this bill was being used for numerous arguments such as sex identification, reproductive rights and being topless at the beach. They expressed that the goal seems to be to send everything to the courts and let the courts decide, thereby the government will rule everything people do. Theis used the example that in schools, children as young as 12 can get a contraceptive without parents’ consent. She said this is another example of authority being taken away from family and given to the courts.

Theis received a standing ovation at the end of the meeting. For more information, contact Drew Sunderlin, 38th District Republican Club president, at info@38thdrcp.com.
