Ribbon cutting celebrated for First State Dance Academy in Milford

July 9, 2016

The Chamber of Commerce for Greater Milford, Milford Mayor Bryan Shupe, CCGM Treasurer Christine Rust, owner Michele Xiques, friends and family recently celebrated a ribbon cutting for First State Dance Academy, 107 Maple Ave. in Milford.

First State Dance Academy is Milford's premier dance school serving Kent and Sussex counties. The academy has been in business for over 15 years, providing the community with successfully trained dancers for many performances, including the dance company's several performances and several community events. Students have been accepted into many different schools for further experience.

The academy offers dance in a variety of forms for the beginner to pre-professional level (ages 2 1/2 and older) or just for anyone who wishes to dance. The state-of-the-art facilities are equipped with proper flooring and a viewing area and/or cameras so families may view the students' classes from the lobby and online (by invitation). The studio offers ballet (mostly Vaganova syllabus), pointe,  jazz, hip hop, contemporary, modern, Zumba and tap. There is a free mid-year performance and the year ends with a dance concert.

FSDA offers scholarships to young men after their first two years studying and continuing their ballet education. It also offers professional master classes with guest teachers throughout the year and especially during the summer programs. Their teachers are committed to providing their students the best training with their dance backgrounds and experience. Each child deserves results with an investment in dance, so families should be assured they are choosing the right place for their child's growth in the performing arts. FSDA is a performance-based training facility, preparing dancers for possible professional careers in dance, either being in a dance company or for college acceptances and/or scholarship opportunities.
