During the recent grand opening of its first Sussex County location, Ricciardi Brothers’ Eric Ricciardi laughed when asked how many gallons of paint the company has sold since it opened in Newark, N.J., in 1929.
“I don’t know,” said Ricciardi, a third-generation owner of paint supply company Ricciardi Brothers. “A billion gallons. Ten billion. A billion gallons is a good number.”
Ricciardi Brothers specializes in paint retail, with Benjamin Moore as its anchor paint, said Ricciardi, whose dad and uncle are the brothers. His grandfather started the company. According to the company’s website, Ricciardi Brothers is the largest Benjamin Moore dealer in America. The company offers all the supplies needed to get any painting job done – electric sanders, compounds, brushes, rollers, tapes, drapes, ladders and more.
Ricciardi Brothers opened its beach location in Henlopen Square, off Rehoboth Avenue Extended in September, the week after Labor Day. Ricciardi said it’s the company’s 43rd store, with most of them being in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. He said they’ve been doing some market research on expansion since buying out a paint supply company in northern Delaware.
As far as Sussex County goes, there aren’t many options for contractors around here unless they want to buy from a big-box store, and Ricciardi Brothers offers a lot better service and knowledge than they do, said Ricciardi.
Ken Burkitt, Ricciardi Brothers district manager, said quite a few of their northern Delaware customers recommended opening a location farther south, near the beaches.
“You’ve got to go to the beach, they said,” said Burkitt. “So, here we are. It’s been fantastic.”
In addition to being a full-service paint supply company, Ricciardi Brothers offers a full line of window treatments, shades, blinds, custom home furnishings, and extensive wallpaper and fabric libraries.
“All a person or company’s decorating needs,” said Ricciardi.
Ricciardi said their company delivers paint purchases on site and all their supplies are available online.
Ricciardi Brothers, 37169 Rehoboth Ave. Ext., is open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., Saturday. The store is closed Sundays, but Burkitt said that might change if there’s a need. For more information, call 302-246-3091 or go to ricciardibrothers.com.
