Richard Allen Yarnall Sr., avid golfer

April 23, 2026

Richard Allen Yarnall Sr. passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2026, one day before his 49th wedding anniversary. Rich left us after a brief but devastating illness. He was a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Everyone described Rich as the all-around “good guy.”

Born and raised in Ridley Township, Pa., he was a proud Delco native (If you know, you know!).  He spent a career in sales and retired to Lewes 15 years ago, where he began a second career as a bartender at Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge.

He was everyone’s favorite bartender and was known to make the best orange crushes on the coast. He was greeted by his friends and customers at the Elks with the familiar “Rich!”– just as Sam Malone would have greeted Norm Peterson on “Cheers.”

Rich loved his Philly sports teams and cheered on his Eagles through thick and thin. He and Janice would sit on their back porch in summer and catch as many Phillies games as they could.

Rich was an avid golfer. In his teens, he started caddying after school and in the summer, and eventually became the assistant pro at Springhaven Country Club in his early 20s. He realized a lifelong dream of playing at Pebble Beach, a 50th birthday gift from his wife, Janice. Rich, we hope you’re enjoying the best 19th hole ever and telling your golf stories to all your old friends.

Rich is survived by his beloved wife, Janice Deeck Yarnall; children, Rich Yarnall Jr. (Kelly) and Katie Yarnall Evans; grandsons, Mason and Chase Evans; step-grandchildren, Taylor and Gemma Goicuria; and many extended family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the Cape Henlopen Elks lodge, “where everybody knows your name,” at a later date.
